INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS PARK AT CONCORD DESIGNATED FIRST NORTH CAROLINA CERTIFIED SITE IN CABARRUS COUNTY
CONCORD, N.C., August 2, 2005 - The North Carolina Department of Commerce has accepted two lots in the International Business Park at Concord into its North Carolina Certified Site program. These lots are the first certified sites in Cabarrus County, and become the tenth in the greater Charlotte metro area.
"Cabarrus County's first Certified Site is one more tool we will use to recruit new industry to our region," said John Cox, CEO, Cabarrus Regional Partnership. "The completion of this process also shows our commitment to our statewide partners at the Department of Commerce that Cabarrus County will do everything in its power to make North Carolina more competitive."
The North Carolina Certified Site program is a statewide initiative that identifies and analyzes industrial sites. The certification process includes securing commitments to support development at specific sites, and proactive analysis of site development costs, environmental issues, and utility service.
In order to qualify, industrial sites must be at least 10 acres and be able to support at least 50,000 square feet of building space on a single level. The sites must be accessible by a roadway that meets the North Carolina Department of Transportation standards for truck access, and topographic analysis must reveal that stormwater issues are manageable.
The developers of the 517-acre International Business Park, The Nolim Group, have placed a strong emphasis on quality in its attention to detail and meticulous development of the Park, which has proven to be a long-term value to the area. Currently, the Park is home to many national and international companies including Oiles North America, Pass & Seymour Legrand, DNP IMS America Corporation, FedEx, Sysco Food Service, Owens Corning, and Minka Lighting.
"The International Business Park at Concord is an outstanding facility, and one of which we are very proud," said Concord Mayor Scott Padgett. "Several years ago the City of Concord partnered with the International Business Park to provide infrastructure, which has proved to be a very good investment for our citizens. The Certified Site designation will be a great asset when marketing the Park."
According to Ron Leitch, Charlotte Region manager for the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the agency will include the International Business Park in direct mail marketing materials and feature it prominently on its web site.
"The Certified Site Program is an important tool for Department of Commerce officials," said Leitch. "The sites in this program are often shown to key prospects because they are pre-tested and ready for development. Speed is important to firms interested in North Carolina, and by preparing sites in advance we help close the gap between the purchase of the site and the final build out."
Concord Engineering and Surveying, Inc., which specializes in civil engineering, GIS, GPS, traditional land surveying, geotechnical engineering and landscape architecture, worked with the Cabarrus Regional Partnership to complete the lengthy application process.
