BARBARA J. WALKER ARCHITECTURE, Inc. TO EXPAND INTO NEW BUILDING IN THE INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS PARK

CONCORD, N.C., February 21, 2006—Barbara J. Walker Architecture, Inc., a Concord-based commercial architecture firm, purchased land and will build a new facility in the International Business Park at Concord.

The firm, in its fourteenth year of business, will also add two employees to support a growing workload. In addition to increasing staff, the move will allow the firm to better serve clients through increased meeting space and a better location. Current projects underway by the firm include mixed-use buildings in Afton Village in Concord and a senior living center in Wilkesboro, N.C.

“Our activity started to take off dramatically in the last quarter of 2004,” said Barbara Walker, principal, Barbara J. Walker Architecture, Inc. “The continued potential for growth in all sectors of the local and regional economy provides solid opportunities for our firm and makes the decision to expand an easy one.”

The architecture firm chose the International Business Park for several reasons, including the location within the Charlotte-region, easy access to I-85 and Highway 73, and the high potential for commercial and residential growth driven by Charlotte in the Park’s immediate vicinity.

This building marks the first development in Phase II of the International Business Park at Concord. According to the Park’s developers, the Nolim Group, Phase II is designed for office and medical buildings with the option of land sales of build-to-suit.

“The entire Highway 73 corridor is growing tremendously,” said Walker. “The International Business Park and its high development standards will provide a solid long-term investment. In addition, we found the land prices in the Park on par with others in the region.”

BJW Architecture will design the 10,000 square-foot building. Current plans call for Walker Marketing, Advertising & Public Relations, Inc. to occupy 6500 square feet. BJW Architecture will occupy 1500 square feet. Two thousand square-feet will remain unfinished for future expansion.
